Rugby League - "The Family Sport".

That is how the sport is regarded across the country. It is admired and often quoted as an example of best practice when it comes to discipline and fair play.

We are all proud of these accolades and fiercely protective of our reputation. The RESPECT campaign is aimed at ensuring that in times of social change, we are well positioned to maintain those standards and to even enhance them.

As an accredited sporting club, Halton Farnworth Hornets and all those associated with the club, promote the message of RESPECT and its Code of Conduct.

Everyone will ensure that RESPECT is brought to the forefront of those involved in the sport and emphasise what is acceptable and desirable and also those things that are not. RESPECT is always earned and as a consequence we all have to make sure it is central to our activity.

Everybody within the game is empowered to protect our reputation, which will improve the environment for all participants. This will make the sport, and Halton Farnworth Hornets, even more attractive and enjoyable for everyone.

Halton Farnworth Hornets and all those associated with the club, do uphold these standards of conduct, unfortunately some clubs do not.

It has therefore became necessary for David Lowe (The RFL Competitions Administrator) to re-emphasis the ethics of RESPECT.

Below is a reprint of exactly what David Lowe has reiterated to every club.

"Some players and officials appear to be showing scant reference towards the RESPECT campaign and its provisions. Already this season some referees have received touch-line and player abuse - cases held in situ yet to be dealt with - If this continues unchecked your club may find themselves without match officials and other sanctions may be considered in proven instances to include the loss of league points.

Clearly this IS an 'avoidable' situation and everyone concerned with games in whatever match day role undertaken is EXPECTED to observe
the RESPECT campaign designed in the main - but not exclusively so to clean up - the touchline environment where it is widely recognised most problems are likely to occur.

Remember players and referees collectively and as individuals take part in the sport for their enjoyment. Abuse of them in whatever guise is abhorrent and simply unacceptable. New players clubs coaches and referees cannot expect to be attracted to our game if the prevailing environmental conditions in which they operate does not allow fairness and enjoyment - the key to opening new avenues and adventures for a sport moving forward inexorably.

The provisions of RESPECT now recognised by the sport as a whole will be implemented to the letter so let no-one be under illusion as to the penalties which can be meted out.

Please be understanding and show tolerance of mistakes by both players and referees. Applaud good play on both sides and equally give the referee RESPECT as without him/her some older age group games cannot be scheduled."

RESPECT - a shared responsibility for the common good.

The HFH Club have signed up to the RFL’s RESPECT policy and you
