26 Sep 2007 - Halton Sports Awards 2007. LATEST NEWS!!!

UPDATE03 [08/11/07 - Conclusion]

Both Ian Yates and Jimmy Dodd attended the 'Merseyside Future Sporting Champions Dinner' at The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Albert Dock, Liverpool, on Friday 26th October 2007.

Ian and Jimmy were representing the HFH Club, following Halton Sports Partnership's nomination of HFH tin the category of 'Merseyside Sports Club of The Year 2007".

There were a total of six separate sporting disciplines from across Merseyside, who were entered into this award category.

Representatives from all six sporting organisations were called to the front stage were the award winner was announced. Unfortunately it wasn't the HFH Club, as Prescott Hockey Club took the honours.

Nonetheless, the remaining five clubs were presented with a commemorative glass shield, in honour of their clubs achievement in reaching the finals.

The HFH shield now takes pride of place along side the recently awarded HSP shield in the HFH Trophy Cabinet.

This was a great effort by the HFH Club and shows what recognition the club now acclaims.

UPDATE01 [29/09/07 - Report by Ian Yates]

Approximately 110 guests attended the Halton Sports Partnership Annual Dinner at the Halton Stadium on Wednesday 26th September 2007.

Enjoying a three course meal, the occasion gave everybody the opportunity to inter-network, with representation from all every sport across the Borough of Halton. This was something which would not have occurred had it not been for Halton Sports Partnership organising this awards celebration evening.

In total there were eight award categories for presenting.

Each individual ward was highly commendable in its own right, with the HFH Club in the category of 'Sports Club of the Year 2007'. The HFH Club, along with The Widnes Table Tennis Association, were the two clubs selected from all the entries, to attend the evening's event.

Neither club were aware of who the ultimate winner would be!

Running affairs on behalf of the Halton Sports Partnership was Alan Jackson from Radio Merseyside, and a fantastic job he did too.

When the award category of 'Sports Club of the Year 2007' was declared, both Jimmy Dodd and myself, along with those people from The Widnes Table Tennis Association, sat nervously awaiting the final result.

When Alan Jackson announced it was the HFH Club, Jimmy and I were invited to the stage for the award. This consisted of a framed certificate (which will go on the wall at Wilmere Lane) and glass memento highlighting the achievement.

The presentation was made by the Mayor of Halton in the absence of the award category sponsor.....Best Sports.

Finally, a brief interview took place with Alan Jackson asking questions about the HFH Club's achievements through out the year, and plans for the future.

On conclusion, there was a hugh round of applause and numerous comments of 'congratulations' as we made our way back to our seats clutching the framed certificate and glass memento.

The HFH Club would now like to take the opportunity to thank the Halton Sports Partnership for organising and arranging the awards presentation evening. The Halton Sports Partnership has been a tremendous help to the HFH Club throughout the year and may it well continue.

Also a big 'Thank You' goes to Best Sports for sponsoring this particular category award. This was something which they have been doing for several years. Well done!

And to all those volunteers of the HFH Club, keep up the good work and let's keep this club on track. Cheers.

Ian Yates
HFH Secretary
