24 Jul 2007 - Widnes Vikings visit Wilmere Lane Playing Fields

HFH U15`s Entertain Widnes Vikings at a Wilmere Lane Saturday Training Session

With the new 2007/2008 Season fast approaching, many of the HFH teams have embarked on pre-season training as a build up to the season start.

The HFH U15's are no exception and Saturday 21st July would be their second training session but with a difference!

Widnes Vikings coach Steve McCormack had agreed to take the HFH U15's players training session at Wilmere Lane Playing Fields and put them through their paces. All the HFH U15's players were aware of these arrangements and certainly relishing the idea of Steve McCormack training them.

Although the weather was overcast and cloudy, this did not distract from the enthusiasm of the HFH players, who were prepared for anything - well almost?

Unbeknown to the HFH U15's players, the Widnes Vikings squad also appeared at Wilmere Lane Playing Fields, to the surprise of the HFH players and parents.

Joining in with the training session, encouraging, bantering and joking with the HFH players, all the Viking members contributed to a great one-hour session. And remarkably, it stopped raining for the duration of the training session.

With the Vikings taking along the Northern Rail Cup from their recent win over Whitehaven; it was a fitting end when Steve McCormack and the players made themselves available for a photo shot opportunity.

The whole event was a total success, with the HFH players and parents, the Widnes Vikings players and Steve McCormack having a great time with everybody getting something positive out of it.

There was only one small misdemeanor and this occurred with Paul Noone!

When everything had concluded, some of the Viking players had a little whisper in the ears of the HFH players. With everybody gathering their things together and starting to walk towards the clubhouse, nobody noticed how quite the HFH players were and the fact that they were all walking together without a word been spoken.

Then it hit home.

They had all been put-up to 'grounding' Paul Noone.

It seems that Paul didn't want to get dirty and therefore kept some distance from where the activity was happening. But the HFH Players had been put-up to no good, and they all jumped on Paul Noone, bring him down to the ground.

Although wet and muddy, as a true professional Paul took it in good spirits, but if he finds out which Widnes player(s) actually instigated these actions..........he'll be handing them a repair bill for having to get his wrist watch repaired.

The HFH Management Committee would like to thank Steve McCormack and all the Viking players for giving up their valuable time, and making themselves available for the Saturday morning. It was very much appreciated by all at the HFH Club.

Finally, a great gratitude of thanks must go to Pat Cluskey. Without his involvement in making all the necessary arrangements, this training session would never of happened, and there would have been no coming together of the Vikings Club and the HFH Club. Thank You Pat.
