10 Mar 2008 - HFH U14's & The National Cup

UPDATE05 [10/03/08 - Fantastic Win]

The HFH U14's travelled away once again in the BARLA National Cup, this time to Whitehaven, and to take on Kells in the Semi Final.

All this travelling must work wonders for the HFH U14's because they came away from Cumbria with a fantastic victory.

In a close fought contest, the HFH U14's triumphed with a 06 - 10 win, and now go on to the BARLA National Cup Final.

This will be staged at SOUTH LEEDS STADIUM on MONDAY 5th MAY 2008.

The HFH U14's will face Castleford Lock Lane, who beat Wigan St Patrick's in the other Semi Final.

Monday May 5th is a Public Bank Holiday (May Day) and the HFH U14's would like as many Hornets fans as possible, to join them in Leeds on that day.

The HFH U14's players, coaches & management have done a tremendous job to reach the BARLA National Cup Final, so lets help them over the final obstacle and cheer them on against Castleford Lock Lane.

Brilliant achievement boys in reaching the BARLA National Cup Final; let's hope you can finish the job off for the HFH and bring that silverware to the club.

The following information was received via email on 29th February 2008:

Hi Peter,

My name is James Davies and I am the Team Manager for the Wales Students RL. Just a quick email to introduce myself and to put my contact details down with regards to the regional's on the weekend of the 15/16th of March.

My Club in which I am head coach of recently played your under 14's in the BARLA 16's and as I didn't have an email address to contact you could please pass on my congratulations to them on reaching the semi finals. These young men where great ambassadors for your club and Rugby league as a whole and acted amicably when they visited us the a few weeks ago. If you could pass on my congratulations that would be much appreciated.

Thanks and I look forward to meeting up with you in a few weeks time.

Kind Regards

James Davies
Wales SRL

The following email was then received on 3rd February 2008:

Hi Pete,

I would have no objections what so ever to you including my emails on the HFH website. What I have realised whilst working with children is that if a child does something's wrong then there is a big publicity about how all children are not disciplined etc but these children are in a minority. There is never enough praise when a group of young men do something's right. I just thought that after a hard and physical game the disciplined showed by your Under 14's was a credit to your club, coaches and they parents.

The way in which they behavior themselves in our club afterwards was superb. It was a pleasure to accommodate them. I have had senior players leave more mess in our food area after a game and while the presentations took place you could hear a pin drop and keeping young men quiet for 10 minutes is a hard old job. On Behalf of the NPT Steelers we'd like to wish you all the best in the Semi Finals.

Kind Regards

James Davies
Wales SRL

That's great feed back for the HFH U14's and the HFH Club itself.

Thank you 'Neath Port Talbot Steelers' for those kind and postive remarks.

To all the HFH U14's players, to Paul Hulme/John Crooks & Co and to all the parents, congratulations and 'well done' in the ongoing development of the U14's squad.

The Semi Final draw of the BARLA National Cup has been made and the two North West Counties clubs are kept apart.

UPDATE03 [25/02/08 - Last Four]

The HFH U14's had a great win on Sunday, when they travelled to Warrington to take on Ryland's Sharks (read the full Match Report via the 'Fixtures & Results' button), in the Quarter Finals of the BARLA NATIONAL CUP.

Now through to the Semi Final, they await to know who their opponents are, and if they will need to hire another coach for another away tie!

One thing is for sure, the HFH U14's are only one of the two remaining North West Counties teams left in this National competition, the other been Wigan St Patrick's.

The other area teams through to the Semi Final stages are Kells and Castleford Lock Storm.

The fullest regards and best of luck go with the HFH U14's. Come on boys, you're nearly there now!

UPDATE02 [22/02/08 - Last Eight]

The HFH U14's have been drawn away again!

This time it's closer to home - just up the road to Warrington, where the Hornets U14's will take on RYLAND'S SHARKS.

A victory this Sunday would put the lads in the hat with three other teams also to be decided Sunday. Each step is getting closer and closer to that illustrious 'FINALS' game and the silver ware.

Parents and supports can also do their bit!

By shouting and applauding from the side lines, you will be encouraging the lads on the field to give that little bit more. This could be all that's needed to balance the game in favour of the HFH U14's.

Good luck lads and just play the cup fixture as you normally would - skilful in attack and hard in defence but most of all.......enjoy.

Halton Farnworth Hornets U14's are in the THIRD Round of the National Cup.

Following the HFH U14's coach trip to Yorkshire two weeks ago, and a victory against Shaw Cross, they now have to embark on another coach trip - this time to South Wales.

The HFH U14's have been drawn against Neath Port Talbot Steelers it what will be a tough encounter. With an early Sunday morning drive ahead of them, Paul Hulme and John Crooks (coaching staff) will have no doubt told the players to have an early night Saturday. The kick-off is scheduled for 2:30pm.

With the playing location and distance involved, some player's parents have decided to make a family weekend of it and will be driving down to South Wales on the Saturday.

Everybody at the HFH Club would like to wish the HFH U14's squad, coaching staff, parents and supporters a safe trip, and the players every success on the field. Play your normal game and lets see you progress into the next round.

Who knows - you might even get another coach trip out of it!
